For those that just can't wait to get your feet wet, this training aims to combine Level 1 Intro + Level 2 Shallow water into one day with our instructor team at Jetty Island.

Estimated training time is between 3-4 hours (1 hour Intro + 3 hours Set, up, safety, shallow water practice)

Its always recommended to have more land based trainer kite experience in advance to be more successful with the larger 4 line kites, and although this intensive appraoch may be more physically demanding, this can be a fun way to try out the sport and see if its for you.
You will undoudtedly require continued shallow water training after this experience, and therefore it is recommended to reserve mutliple dates if possible to either use as a back up in case of no wind or as continued training if the wind gods are in your favor.

Day of Training

Although the estimated meeting time is set for as early as 1:30pm, we ask that clients be prepared to meet as early as 1pm or as late as 4pm and be committed to a minimum of 2 hours training if the wind is up, so clear your evening schedule as the wind can often come in late. Our head instructor will contact you via email by 10am on the day of your lesson to confirm if the wind and tide will cooperate and when the meeting time will be set for the ‘best window of wind.’

Training time will not begin at meet up, but once you are on the beach with your instructor. If instructors know well in advance that the weather will not cooperate, then they will do their best to give you ‘notice of cancelation’ the day before. Otherwise we ask that you remain ready and on-call for the decision, the day of your lesson, as forecasts can rapidly change.

—It is highly recommended that you reserve more dates than just one on the calendar throughout the season as this sport revolves around Mother Nature, and we ourselves are not the Wind Gods! Lessons will be cancelled if the wind is not there. If you wish to get out there for multiple days of training, which is usually what it takes, it would be beneficial to reserve multiple dates as we are often booked out 4 weeks in advance with weekends being the highest in demand.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Be prepared to be outside for that day’s weather conditions. Be prepared to stay late for the wind to come up. 6-8pm in Summer *
  • Suggested: sweater, raincoat, sunscreen, hat, food & water, meds.
  • 4/3 wetsuit (required) can be rented with advanced request $20 fee
  • Cash Tip for your instructor if you learned and had a good experience!

Level 2 - Shallow water training $125/ hr

We ask for 1 hour of payment when booking your reservations. You may reserve as many spots on the calendar as you want, which can be rescheduled if wind does not cooperate or refunded if not used. You will be charged for your additional lesson hours separately once complete.

Take this course if you have mastered the basic flying skills with a land based training kite. Learning in shallow water is a great way to quickly progress and learn from your mistakes. Providing a forgiving environment to stand up in allows you to try a skill over and over until mastery, while providing a bit of a safety net. You may need 6 hours, you may need 20 hours of shallow water training depending on your skill level and progression. As we can never control the wind it is highly recommended that you book multiple days on the calendar as we often are booked out 3-4 weeks in advance and you can always upgrade to Deep water support as you progress. You are likely to want this focused training if you are new to the sport, working on body-dragging, board recovery skills, water starts or water relaunching the kite. Let us know your skill level and we can recommend if this type of training will fit your needs. We also recommended that you are a confident swimmer.

This training is optimal for kiteboarders who are able to water start, ride short distances, and comfortable with relaunching the kite off of the water. Do not sign up for this training if you are not at the appropriate skill level or have not mastered the skills requirements of IKO Level 2. If you have reserved multiple Shallow Water Training days you can always request to upgrade to this support. Your instructor can help you decide if this would be beneficial based on your skill level. If you don’t know, describe your level and experience and ask our team! We utilize jetski support and BBTalkin radio helmet coaching system to get you into deeper waters away from other kiters, so you can begin to dial in your kite and board riding skills for longer runs and rides, ultimately leading to the skill of riding upwind!
If you sign up for this level training, but your instructor can see that you are not at the skill level to utilize this support, they may opt to work with you in shallow water, and of course you will be credited for any amount extra you already paid for.
